Occupational Therapist, Case Manager and Care Expert

Profile:

I am a state registered occupational therapist with 20 years’ experience specialising within the paediatric setting. My extensive clinical experience has been gained through working with clients, initially within the NHS and then in private practice working as a case manager. I continue to work as a case manager through Westcountry Case Management. My clinical role ensures that I have current and relevant knowledge, which I apply when writing medico-legal reports for Court.

Qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy – Class 2:1

Skills/experience:

I work with children/adolescents and families, with complex neurological conditions and severe learning difficulties. I have experience of case managing complex 24-hour care packages involving the recruitment of support workers and team leaders over a prolonged period of time, using direct employment and care agencies. I have in-depth experience of transitioning children through key stages of their development into adolescent and young adult life, liaising with health authorities, education authorities and social services.

I am competent at administrating standardised and non-standardised assessments. I have successfully completed an intense eight-week training course on the assessment and treatment of children with cerebral palsy and associated neurological conditions. I am continually motivated to develop my knowledge base and use evidenced-based practice as the basis of assessments. I am experienced in the assessment of specialist equipment and wheelchair adapted vehicles for children and young adults with physical and learning disabilities. I have completed adaptations to properties to accommodate families and care teams providing 24-hour care packages.

I have experience of writing over 160 complex medico-legal reports for Court. In my role as an expert witness I have attended case conferences, participated in meetings of experts and given evidence in Court.
